Men
PEORIA -- Six teams were entered in the
same division as Lincoln College in a men's cross country meet here,
and the Lynx finished third with 101 points. Rend Lake won the
division with 25 points. Lincoln College finished ahead of Olivet
Nazarene, Illinois Central and Knox.
Mike Verre led the Lynx with a time of
26:49 for the 8K course, which is his personal best by 1:25. Clint
Wombles followed with his personal best in a time of 26:52, and
Craig Frederiksen finished in 27:05, over one minute faster than his
last race.
Rounding out the scoring for LC were
Dave Stouffer in 28:29 and Tim Jenkins in 28:42.
"This guys' team is just phenomenal,"
Lincoln coach Erin Verbeck said. "They continue to amaze me. We are
so deep, one through seven, all within two minutes and 30 seconds of
each other. They are a group of really hard workers who hope to
finish in the top five in the nation this November. They are a
really fun group to watch race, working in pairs throughout the race
to pass other runners."

 Women
PEORIA -- Freshman Jazzii Echols ran
the 5K course in 20:43 to lead the Lynx runners in the women's cross
country meet, good for a 63rd place overall finish. Dana Griffin
came in with a time of 20:56, followed by Anita Swift in 22:18.
Emily Escobedo and Bridget Dietz
rounded out the scoring for Lincoln College.
"This race
was very intimidating for our women," Verbeck said. "There were so
many large schools that it's hard to keep a positive mind-set when
there are more runners ahead of you than behind. This is a test for
them and a chance to run fast times on a very fast course. We fared
well against both Morton and Illinois College, the only other junior
colleges in the competition. We still have a lot of work to do if we
are going to qualify for nationals, but we are getting there."
