[SEPT. 20, 2004]  Central California has a case of the shakes going on. In the past 24 hours there have been more than 36 earthquakes measuring greater than 2.5 magnitude on the Richter scale.

The largest was a magnitude of 5.5 that occurred at 5:02 Eastern Daylight Time. It was on the California-Nevada border, 23 miles southeast of Bodie, Calif., and 156 miles east-southeast of Sacramento, Calif., at coordinates 38N, 118.4W. The depth was 4.7 miles. There are no reports of damage or injuries.

California Office of Emergency Services is monitoring the situation.
