[SEPT. 23, 2004]  Flying enthusiast or not, everyone who enjoys planes is being given a unique opportunity to view vintage aircraft at the Logan County Airport this weekend. You will have the opportunity to meet pilots and hear their flying stories when members of the Fairchild Club fly in for their annual reunion.

Fairchild aircraft were manufactured before, during and after World War II. The most notable models are the four-seat, high-wing F-24 civilian aircraft and the primary trainer planes: PT-19, PT-26 and PT-23.

The trainer aircraft were produced during World War II for the U.S. Army Air Force. These aircraft were powered by either Ranger inverted inline engines with 175 or 200 horsepower or by Warner and Continental Radial engines with 165 or 220 horsepower.

We are looking forward to seeing several examples of the aircraft flown in from neighboring states, Heritage In Flight Museum event coordinator Marvin Boss said.

Members of the Heritage In Flight Museum are hosting the event.

The Fairchild reunion is in a different location each year. "The club is very glad and grateful for the invitation to have the reunion at Lincoln," Fairchild Club member John Berendt said.

The planes will begin arriving Friday, Sept. 24, with plans to depart by noon Sunday, Sept. 26. Their arrival and departure are weather dependent. Some come from great distances. The weather 500 miles from Logan County or anywhere in between could be hazardous for flying.

The public is invited to come see these stunning planes and visit with their pilots Saturday morning and afternoon at the Heritage In Flight Museum hangar. The hangar is located next to the museum at the Logan County Airport. The airport is located northeast of Lincoln, just off Business 55. [Click here for map.]
