ALMH offers free community education on Women's Health & Fitness Day

[SEPT. 22, 2004]  What supplements are safe for me to take? How can exercise help combat osteoporosis? Am I at risk for osteoporosis? How do I care for my loved one with pulmonary disease? Which hospital should I choose for the birth of my baby? Am I at risk for heart disease and how can I tell?

On Wednesday, Sept. 29 -- Women's Health & Fitness Day -- come to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital to find the answers to these and other questions related to women's health.

Sessions scheduled are:

  • 12:30 p.m. -- "Osteoporosis and Exercise," presented by Kim Heitzig, physical therapist

  • 1:30 p.m. -- Osteoporosis screenings, $5 per screening, by the Logan County Health Department

  • 2:30 p.m. -- "Caring for a Loved One with Pulmonary Disease or COPD," presented by Sharon Koester, respiratory therapist

  • 3:15 p.m. -- "Are You at Risk for Heart Disease? How Can You Tell?" presented by Paula Harwood, R.N., B.S.N.

  • 4 p.m. -- "A Glance at Dietary Supplements: Safe or Unsafe?" presented by Dr. Helen Feinstein, Pharm.D.

  • 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m. 6:30 p.m. -- Tours of the third floor Family Maternity Suites, led by the OB nursing staff

  • 5:30 p.m. -- "Maternal-Child Healthcare Updates: Newborn Hearing Test, Newborn Screening and Rapid HIV Testing," presented by OB nursing staff

All information sessions will take place in the conference rooms on the basement level of ALMH. Park in the Eighth Street parking lot and check in at the first floor information desk on arrival.
