Gold sedan leaves scene of I-55 accident    Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 8, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon accident that sent two young women to the hospital.

Jessica J. Yemm, 20, of Virden was driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am north in the right-hand lane on Interstate 55. Karrie M. Maynerich, 19, of Thayer was a passenger in the vehicle. At Milepost 80, shortly after 4 p.m., a gold four-door sedan, also traveling northbound, began to switch lanes from the left lane into the right lane, which was occupied by Yemm's vehicle. Yemm swerved to the right and applied her brakes but lost control of her vehicle. The Pontiac slid off the roadway and into the right-side ditch and overturned. The gold 4-door sedan continued northbound without stopping.

Yemm and Maynerich complained of soreness, and both were transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
