[AUG. 8, 2005]  PARK RIDGE -- The Big Ten office has announced the schedule for the 2005 Big Ten Men's Basketball Foreign Tour team. Illinois head coach Bruce Weber will lead the squad against five teams in Spain from Aug. 9 to 19.

After a three-day training session on the campus of University of Illinois, the team will depart on Tuesday and arrive in Barcelona, Spain, the next afternoon. After two days of rest and sightseeing, the squad will open competition against the Huesca Basketball Club on Aug. 13. After a day off, the Big Ten contingent resumes competition against the VIC Barcelona Basketball Club on Aug. 15. The tour squad will then travel to Valencia, Spain, where they will take on the Alcora Basketball Club on Aug. 16 and the Pamesa Valencia Basketball Club on Aug. 17. The team wraps up the tour by facing the C.B. Valls Basketball Club on Aug. 18 in Barcelona, Spain. The team will return to the United States on Aug. 19.

The future of the Big Ten will be on display overseas, as seven of the 12 players have completed two or fewer seasons of college basketball.

The group includes student-athletes from all 11 league schools: Illinois' Calvin Brock and Brian Randle, Iowa's Mike Henderson, Indiana's Marco Killingsworth, Michigan's Ron Coleman, Michigan State's Goran Suton, Minnesota's Spencer Tollackson, Northwestern's Evan Seacat, Ohio State's Matt Terwilliger, Penn State's Brandon Hassell, Purdue's Matt Kiefer, and Wisconsin's Jason Chappell.

The league's foreign tour team in 2004 produced a record of 3-2 to boast a winning record for a third straight trip (6-0 in 2001, 4-1 in 2002) for the first time since the team's inception in 1991.
