[AUG. 17, 2005]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games at the senior center on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m. Come join the fun! Win food prizes!

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the senior center library. No reservation is necessary. The group, facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre, provides support and information for caregivers and extended family.

Board meeting open to public

The Oasis board meets Thursday at 5 p.m., and the session is open to the public. To schedule any agenda items, the board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date.

Pharmacist will review prescriptions

Pharmacist Camille Wissmann will be at the senior center Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. to review prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements that seniors may be taking. Appointments are available. Please call 732-6132.

Glaucoma screening

The Oasis is also taking appointments for glaucoma screenings on Friday between 1 and 3 p.m. This free service is available from Dr. Sandra Pelfrey-Jones of Baller Eye Care.

Book club coming to the senior center

Come and join our very own Oasis Book Club. Rekindle the rewards of reading a book and either sharing your thoughts with the group or just sitting back and listening to others. The scheduled time is Monday at 1 p.m. Coffee and tea will be provided. Bring a friend and enjoy reading.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch on Aug. 23 will feature soft-shell tacos with garnishes, salad, corn chips, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Ticket deadline is noon Monday.

Think tank

Seniors are invited to join us Aug. 24 for information, discussion, and questions and answers with Lynn Laughlin of Lincoln Christian College. The topic is on changes taking place at the college.

Winners announced

Larry Van Bibber and Tom Garrison won weekend pinochle. Mable Hoagland and Linda Hughes won weekday pinochle.
