Fontbonne edges Preachers          Send a link to a friend

[DEC. 13, 2005]  After rallying from 17 points down, the Lincoln Christian College Preachers dropped a 78-77 heartbreaker at home to Fontbonne University of St. Louis.

In the last 12 minutes the Preachers overcame the 17-point deficit and took a one-point lead on a basket by Matt Searby with 20 seconds remaining. Fontbonne’s Brian Fogerty then made the winning basket with eight seconds left. The Preachers were able to get off a last-second shot that bounced off the rim.

Coach Clark, although disappointed, was proud that his players never gave up and worked hard the entire game.

The Preachers were playing without Luke Johnson, whose status is uncertain due to a foot injury.

The Preachers were led by Matt Searby, with 30 points and seven rebounds; Howard Wickersham, with 13 points and six rebounds; and Tyler Smith, with 10 points.

The Griffins of Fontbonne were led by Patrick McCoy, with 22 points -- 21 coming on 3-point baskets.

LCC is now 1-10 and Fontbonne is 4-5.

The Preachers are next in action Wednesday at MacMurray College in Jacksonville.
