Juvenile detention costs

The board approved a request to add 150 more days to the juvenile detention contract with McLean County. It was just last month that the board approved 150 days. However, jailer Dean Eilts reconsidered it. He decided that it would be better to increase the request by another 150 days, to 300 days total.

Board member George Mitchell called to question doubling the figure, asking if we would need all those days.

Sheriff Nichols said, "I made two runs there today."

The reason for the change is that at 300 days it would prevent having to go through the process again in the next six months. McLean has said that they would carry over any unused days into the next contract period, so there would be no loss.

By contract Logan County pays $80 a day for juveniles awaiting hearings. Without contract the cost is $110 per day.

Representatives

State Reps. Bill Mitchell and Rich Brauer have requested to have space at the courthouse one day each month so that residents could call or come meet with them. It would be on a different day for each of them.

Building and grounds chairman John Stewart said that there could be temporary screens sectioning off the space and telephones added.

The request is being considered.

Courthouse repairs

Stewart said that George Mitchell is looking into the possibility of a grant to help with courthouse elevator repair expenses.

Ice has apparently caused a leak in the roof. Mr. High will be called to repair it.

It was decided to postpone the county's airport committee meeting from Jan. 2 to Jan. 11, since Jan. 2 is a legal holiday.

The board meets again on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Logan County Courthouse.
