Robert D. Klokkenga

Robert D. Klokkenga, 77, of Hartsburg passed away 9:50 a.m. on December 23, 2005 in the Hopedale Medical Complex.

Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hartsburg. You may also greet the family from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the church basement for food and fellowship.

The family will hold a private burial at Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Robert was born April 18, 1928 in Rural Hartsburg, the son of Albert and Margaret (Hildebrand) Klokkenga. He married Virginia Behrends on July 30th 1950 in Hartsburg.

Mr. Klokkenga was a hard working farmer in Hartsburg. He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served as their Sunday School Superintendent, Church Council Member, and many other titles. He was an employee of Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln for nearly 30 years. He was involved with REACT and was instrumental in bringing the rescue squad to Hartsburg. Anyone who knew Robert could speak of his involvement in the community.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of Hartsburg; two sons, Kendall Klokkenga and his wife Kim of Glendale, Arizona and Kurt Klokkenga of Hartsburg; two daughters Roberta Klokkenga of Springfield and Lorna Klokkenga of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren Paul and Abigail Klokkenga of Emden and Matthew and Valerie Klokkenga of Glendale, Arizona. Other members of the family include Tom and Mary Anderson and their sons Robert and Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marilyn Harnacke.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hartsburg.
