The
precipitation should gradually change from rain to freezing
rain in the Peoria area between 4 and 6 a.m. and in the
Bloomington area by sunrise. Ice accumulations will likely
reach around a quarter of an inch before the precipitation
changes to snow by sunset. Several inches of snow will fall on
top of the ice before the precipitation ends from the west
Wednesday evening.
An area
south of a Rushville-to-Bloomington line and north of a
Winchester-to-Danville line will see a transition from rain to
freezing rain and finally to a brief period of snow during the
afternoon and evening on Wednesday. In this area, the
combination of less than a quarter of an inch of ice
accumulation and snow will likely produce hazardous driving
and walking conditions.

cities of Champaign, Danville, Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln

Rain will
continue across the area through the morning hours. As cold
air slowly moves south into the area, the rain is expected to
change over to freezing rain this afternoon and then briefly
to snow this evening before the precipitation ends. Ice

with light accumulations of snow to produce hazardous driving
conditions later today and through this evening.
A winter
weather advisory is normally issued for a variety of winter
weather conditions, such as light snow, blowing snow, sleet,
freezing rain and extreme wind chills. While the weather will
be significant, the word “advisory” implies that severe winter
weather is not anticipated. However, if you are planning on
traveling north along and north of Interstate 74, periods of
freezing rain will make for very slick roadways today.
