additional property

[JAN. 24, 2005]  A local church announced on Sunday that it is buying more property. A church growth and development vision team, led by Becky Werth, at Jefferson Street Christian made the decision this past year to add on to the current building rather than move. The church has purchased property in all directions except to the north for the expansion of the building and additional parking.

The church had made an offer to purchase a portion of the property to the north that belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Virgil McCann. The McCanns recently agreed that they would be willing to sell their entire property, based on a unique arrangement. The church offered to find and purchase another home for them that better suits their needs at this time in their life and then deed it over to them in exchange.

A home was found just few blocks away, on North Monroe Street, that the McCanns said they would appreciate. It offers the aging couple easier living. The home will be easier to keep up with, as it is all on one level. The laundry can be done without going to the basement, and there is a nice garage.

Allen Shew, an elder for the church, said that he thought the closing on the home for the couple could happen as early as sometime next week.

Representatives for the church said it will afford the church a little more room to enter and exit the property nearest the new expansion on the north end of Jefferson Street.

Exact progress of the new building is undetermined at this time. The work is being overseen by CMA Builders. Much of the labor will be supplied by church members. Foundations for a new sanctuary are already set. Custom-made structural arches are in formation and expected to arrive by the end of February. After they arrive and are installed, a clearer timeline can be developed.
