Ladies, are you concerned about your safety when
leaving a mall, restaurant or other business? Have you ever become
uneasy around a stranger for no other reason than that he "makes me
feel uncomfortable"?

Women's Personal Safety is scheduled for the first two Saturdays in
February. Dan Dugan will be your instructor. Dugan is also known as
Sensi Dugan to many here at the park district. He is the founder of
Yoshukai Alliance Karate School. Male and female students of his
school will assist in the teaching. Basic instruction in
self-defense will be covered. Women are encouraged to bring a
friend. Individuals who complete the class will receive a gift
certificate toward one-month instruction in Yoshukai. Dates are Feb.
5 and 12, 1-2:30 p.m., with a cost of $15 for both weeks.
Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably. *

Tumbling is back on the mat! We welcome Lauren Perring as our
instructor. She studied in Minier for seven years and has given
private instruction for the past two years. Beginner levels will
start Feb. 6 for a six-week series. Young people in kindergarten
through second grades will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the aerobics room
for a 45-minute class. Third through fifth grades will meet from
2:30 to 3:15.

Stephen Klemm, owner of Picture This Studio, will be the
instructor for a pair of photography classes. Participants will need
to choose between traditional film and digital cameras. Traditional
film instruction will focus on tips and tricks, flashes, filters and
lenses. The class will end with a photography contest the last week.
Digital camera instruction will encompass choosing a camera and
computer printer software. Making calendars, cards and whimsical
projects are included, as well as high-tech special effects e-mail
and slide shows. Either class is $40 for the four-week course. The
film camera group will start on Feb.1 at 7 p.m. and the digital
camera group on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. Both classes are hosted at the park
district headquarters.
