[JULY 5, 2005]  Abe Lincoln's famous stovepipe hat has replaced the decorated fiberglass dogs of Dog Daze as Main Street Lincoln's mascot to help raise funds toward the continuing beautification of Lincoln's downtown area.

The models of Abe's stovepipe hat can be decorated by either the sponsors or artists of their choosing and will be available for sponsorship beginning immediately.

This year's "Hats Off to Abe" is in honor of the Logan County Courthouse's 100th birthday. Main Street Lincoln will sponsor and decorate the official Centennial Hat, which will reflect the 100 years of progress in Logan County towns under the umbrella of our magnificent Logan County Courthouse, a centennial masterpiece.

Sponsorship of hats is open to anyone and everyone in Logan County. Sponsored hats may be decorated in a general patriotic theme. Hats are ready for immediate pickup and cost $175. If there are many requests, hats can be ordered quickly.

Hats will be displayed during the Art of Wine at the Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival, Aug. 27 and 28. Later, the hats will be auctioned during the centennial celebration of the Logan County Courthouse, on Nov. 5.

Forms for sponsoring an Abe hat are available at the Main Street Lincoln's office, 303 S. Kickapoo St. Or call (217) 732-2929 for more information.
