Lincoln Pony League's All-Star team vs. Mount Zion

[JULY 8, 2005]  The Lincoln Area Pony League All-Star team swept a baseball doubleheader from a Mount Zion team Thursday night.

The All-Stars won the first game 6-5 in extra innings.

Trevor Moore had the game-winning RBI with an eighth-inning single. Other highlights included a single by Devon Biggs, a triple by Zack Toft, a single by Drake Biggs, a single by Tyson Smith, and a triple and two RBIs by Steve Mulkins.

Ben Brackney pitched seven strong innings, giving up only three earned runs on three hits while striking out four. Blair Bruns pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the win.

The second game lasted only five innings as Lincoln ended the game early, due to the 10-run rule, with a 13-3 score.

Steve Mulkins pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up only one earned run while striking out eight. Drake Biggs ended the game on the mound by pitching 1 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings.

Offensive standouts in this game included a double, a run scored and an RBI from Devon Biggs; a single and run scored by Connor McQuellon; a double and two runs scored by Zach Toft; a double and three runs scored by Blair Bruns; a single and two runs scored by Tyson Smith; a triple, a single, a run scored and an RBI by Ben Brackney; a triple, a run scored and an RBI by Steve Mulkins; and a single by Drake Biggs.

The sweep improved the All-Star team’s overall record to 2-2. Lincoln will play another doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion against a different Mount Zion team.
