[JULY 9, 2005]  The Lincoln Speedway, in conjunction with the Lincoln Jaycees, is designating Aug. 14 as Illinois Jaycee Pride Night, with gates opening at 3 p.m. and races starting at 4 p.m. at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Lincoln.

During the intermission between the qualifying and feature races, the Lincoln Speedway will host a special 10-lap, 4-cylinder Wild Thing race. The race will feature four contestants: Lucia Irwin, Illinois Jaycee president; Tony Symoniak, Illinois membership vice president; Larry Harl, Lincoln Jaycee president; and the Lincoln Jaycee top recruiter for the month of July.

To honor the Jaycees, Lincoln Speedway will offer attending Jaycees and their families a special $5 admission. As usual, children under 11 years old can enter free of charge. Lincoln Speedway, with its no-alcohol policy, provides family-oriented entertainment.

"We are proud to be working with such a community-oriented company as the Lincoln Speedway," Harl said. "The speedway understands the community service that the Lincoln Jaycees and every chapter in the Illinois Jaycees provide to their community. They understand that companies, too, must give back to local residents and be part of their community."

The Lincoln chapter of the Jaycees conducts a variety of projects each year for fundraising and community service as well as social purposes. Included in these projects are their haunted house, Angel Tree and annual Easter egg hunt. At the end of the fiscal year, all of the profit generated from chapter projects, less chapter expenses, is funneled back into the community.

The Lincoln chapter of the Jaycees is one of the 1,500 local chapters throughout the United States. Illinois has the largest number of Jaycees of any state in the United States. The organization provides individuals between the ages of 18 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.

The Lincoln Jaycees meet at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Moose Lodge in Lincoln.
