[JUNE 4, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State Police have stepped up efforts to lower Illinois holiday traffic accidents and loss of life. More than 3,000 safety belt enforcement zones were set up throughout the state during the Memorial Day "Click it or Ticket" mobilization.

The Memorial Day holiday enforcement period for District 9 Illinois State Police began at 12:01 a.m. May 27 and ended at midnight on May 30. The results are as follows:

  • Total speed citations: 172
  • Total motorist assists: 111
  • Total DUI arrests: 8
  • Total alcohol arrests: 20
  • Total seat belt citations: 304
  • Total citations: 604
  • Total written warnings: 283
  • Total crashes: 28
  • Total fatals in District 9: 0

Statewide totals for all reporting Illinois State Police districts during the same period are as follows:

  • Total speed citations: 5,283
  • Total seat belt citations: 3,746
  • Total DUI arrests: 175
  • Total motorist assists: 1,564
  • Total citations: 11,940
  • Total crashes: 431
  • Total fatals: 9
