[JUNE 10, 2005]  The Lincoln Police Department is offering its 2005 Citizen Police Academy, with sessions beginning July 20 and continuing each Wednesday for 10 weeks at the Logan County Paramedic Association building. The classes will inform the residents of Lincoln and Logan County of the role and function of the Lincoln Police Department and give a better understanding of law enforcement as a whole.

Oftentimes people know of law enforcement only by what they see on TV, like "Law and Order," "CSI" and "Cops." The Citizen Police Academy offers the public will an opportunity to be a part of the police by being up close and personal with them. Students will get a chance to ride one shift with police and to see in real life what their police officers do for them and the risks that they take.

Police work is an ever-changing profession that the public can watch change. The local police would like to have anyone interested in law enforcement or people who would like to know what their tax dollars go to join the class.

Applications may be picked up at the Lincoln Police Department and must be returned no later than July 15. The classes are open to Logan County residents. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age with no prior criminal record.
