[JUNE 21, 2005]  CHAMPAIGN -- University of Illinois guard Dee Brown announced Monday that he has withdrawn from the upcoming NBA draft and will return to Illinois for his senior season.

Brown submitted his name as an early-entry candidate for the draft in early May. He broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot on June 8 during the NBA pre-draft camp in Chicago and had surgery on June 10. He is in a cast and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks this summer.

Brown is currently enrolled in class on campus. Following summer school, he will need only to complete an internship to earn his bachelor's degree in sport management.

Brown earned consensus first-team all-America honors during the 2004-05 season. He was the Sporting News National Player of the Year, a Wooden Award All-American and was named both the Big Ten Player of the Year and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Brown ranked second among the Illini in scoring, averaging 13.3 points, and reached double figures in 29 games.
