[JUNE 23, 2005]  Were you watching TV this morning? How about at 9 a.m. when Live with Regis and Kelly was live on a cruise ship? The show featured romance live on the first-ever cruise ship that is an American flagship.

A local mom sat watching intensely for a possible of a glimpse of her son. Miggie Carnahan was rewarded with a good look at Preston working when the cameras went to the navigation cabin of the ship and settled to interview the captain. Her son was in the background at the control panel keeping the ship on course during the interview with the captain.

Preston Carnahan holds the significant position of second mate on the Pride of America, the first-ever American flagship. The number of crew and order of naval rank is one captain, one first mate, two second mates and 30-50 third mates.

As an American flagship, the ship can make consecutive stops at American territories without exiting American waters between stops, as other ships must do. The ship is commissioned with the Norwegian Cruise Lines and tours the Hawaiian Islands.
