[JUNE 24, 2005]  After winning seven in a row, and the last six by the 10-run rule, Lincoln Post 263's streak came to an abrupt end with a 10-0 defeat at the hands of Peoria Post 2 Thursday evening at Pete Andrews Baseball Complex.

Lincoln fell behind 2-0 when Peoria scored in the second inning. Lincoln starter Carl Spath held Peoria to two runs until the seventh inning, when Peoria drew an inning-opening walk followed by an infield hit, then a double and an infield error. Peoria went on to score five times in the inning, making the score 7-0 after seven. Peoria scored three more in the eighth to put the 10-run rule into effect.

Lincoln managed only five hits, all singles. Lincoln mounted a threat in the fourth inning with the score 2-0. John Foley singled to center field and was picked off first base. Cory Pelc singled to right field and Drew Olson was hit by a pitch, putting Lincoln runners at first and second. Tyson Durst grounded to the third baseman, who threw wild to first, loading the bases. A 4-6-3 double play ended the inning, and Lincoln never mounted a serious threat after that.

Spath's record fell to 2-1. Lincoln's record is now 8-2.

Lincoln hosts Rochester at 6 p.m. Friday in a home game being played in Mount Pulaski and then travels to Litchfield for an invitational tournament Saturday and Sunday against New Baden, Litchfield, Quincy and Nokomis.
