Southern Illinois fair also features several days of racing on world-famous Magic Mile

[JUNE 25, 2005]  DuQUOIN -- Gov. Rod Blagojevich announced the grandstand lineup for the 82nd DuQuoin State Fair, which will feature Southern rock legend Lynyrd Skynyrd; country stars Travis Tritt, Ricky Skaggs, Blake Shelton and Buddy Jewel; the big band sounds of Jerry Ford and his Orchestra; the alternative metal rock of Crossfade, Seether and One Dark Day; and the WXAN Gospel Night.

"The 2005 DuQuoin State Fair is offering families a diverse and affordable lineup," Blagojevich said. "From rock to country to big-band, there is something for everyone to enjoy at reasonable prices."
  • Aug. 26: To kick off the grandstand entertainment, the DuQuoin State Fair presents Southern rock legend Lynyrd Skynyrd, best known for songs including "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird." Tickets are $30 and $25.
  • Aug. 27: ARCA trucks light up the Magic Mile, one of the fastest dirt tracks in the world. The races begin at 6:30 p.m., with feature racing at 8 p.m.
  • Aug. 28: Rising country sensation Blake Shelton takes the stage with his hits, including "Some Beach Somewhere" and "Nobody But Me." Opening up the show is Nashville Star winner Buddy Jewel. Tickets are $25 and $20.
  • Aug 29-30: Grand Circuit harness horses will race under the lights on the Magic Mile, where several horses have set world records. Post time is at 6:30 p.m.

  • Aug. 31: Jerry Ford and his Orchestra will take a trip down memory lane with his band sound. Tickets are $10.
  • Sept. 1: Ricky Skaggs, a bluegrass icon, will take over the stage. At the recent Grammy Awards, "Brand New Strings" was recognized as the Best Bluegrass Album. Tickets are $20 and $15.
  • Sept. 2: Country artist Travis Tritt will rock the stage with his high-energy country, rock and blues. Tritt will perform many of his classic hits, along with songs from his later album "Honky Tonk History," including "The Girls Gone Wild" and "What Say You." Tickets are $30 and $25.
  • Sept. 3: The world's greatest harness horses will challenge the mile in the World Trotting Derby at noon. Later in the evening, Crossfade, Seether and One Dark Day will electrify the grandstand with hard rock and lots of energy that will keep the crowd on their feet. Tickets are $20 and $15.
  • Sept. 4: The USAC Silver Crown and UMP Modified stock cars will once again battle the Magic Mile under the lights. Races start at 6:30 p.m. with feature racing at 8 p.m.
  • Sept. 5: The high-speed action of the ARCA cars will heat up the Magic Mile. WXAN will sponsor the gospel show on Sept. 5, which will conclude the grandstand entertainment for the 2005 DuQuoin State Fair.

The Southern Illinois Center will also host action-packed motorized entertainment during the 2005 DuQuoin State Fair. Kicking off the action on Aug. 27 and 28, Paul Schafer Motor Sports will converge on the center with his huge monster truck battle. Sept. 2 and 3, Winged Micro Sprints and full-sized Midgets will challenge the Mini Magic Mile with high-speed indoor racing.
