[JUNE 25, 2005]  Genesis Ministries is opening a new thrift shop called New Beginnings at 129 S. Sangamon St., formerly the location of Closet Classics, across from Einstein's. Genesis plans on opening the store for business on July 5. Grand opening and dedication ceremony details will be released when completed.

Planned hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The spacious store will specialize in quality secondhand items, including clothing, jewelry and furniture, as well as a host of other items.

Manager Lisa Ramlow invites you to clean out your closets and bring your donations of clothing, jewelry, furniture, books, videos, toys, and other personal and household items in order to help the store get ready to open. All material donations for Genesis Ministries should be brought to New Beginnings.

"Thrifting" is a new and growing category of shopping. "Thrifters" excitedly plan their thrift-shop adventures and make a day out of browsing all the thrift shops in town to find those special bargains.

Thrift shops help the community by finding new homes for those still-useful, still-wearable items that shouldn't be thrown away. And the income from thrift shops funds the operations of charitable organizations that give back to the community.

New Beginnings joins the existing community of thrift shops in Lincoln, including the Pink Shutter, which benefits Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital; a Salvation Army store, called Sally by thrifters; and Mission Mart, a project of Home Sweet Home Ministries.

All proceeds from the New Beginnings thrift shop will be used to support the Genesis reconciliation ministries located here in Logan County. Genesis Ministries is a nondenominational Christian not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping women make a new start in life.
