[JUNE 27, 2005]  American Legion Post 263 went 2-3 over the weekend, beginning Friday evening with a 5-1 loss to Rochester at Mount Pulaski. Chance Berger went the distance for Lincoln. In his first pitching start of the season, he gave up three earned runs, striking out five and walking four, while Rochester managed nine hits. Lincoln’s Alex Dahm had two hits and drove in the lone Lincoln run.

Lincoln participated in the Litchfield Invitational Tournament Saturday and Sunday, going 2-2 in four games.

In Saturday's first game, Lincoln gathered only three hits in an 8-7 loss to New Baden (19-4). Entering the seventh inning trailing 5-1, Lincoln scored six runs on three hits, two errors and four walks to take a 7-5 lead. New Baden countered in their half of the inning with a leadoff home run, a walk and two singles to grab the win. Gary Rademaker (0-1) took the loss in his first pitching assignment of the season, following Bobby Maestas to the mound in the sixth inning.

In Saturday's second game, Lincoln won 10-9 over Nokomis in what can easily be described as a strange game. Lincoln scored two in the top of the first inning, but Nokomis answered with seven in their half of the first. In the top of the second, Lincoln scored seven times for a 9-7 lead and held on for the win, called after five innings due to the tournament time-limit rule. Carl Spath came on in relief of Aaron Altman to up his record to 3-0. Eric Broughton had three hits and three RBIs, while Tyson Durst, Paul Phillips and Tim Guy added two hits each to the win. Alex Dahm and Kevin Carrol each had one RBI.

In Sunday's action, Lincoln fell 3-1 to Quincy, getting only two hits (Durst and Phillips). John Foley gave up only six hits while striking out nine and allowing one earned run in going the distance.

In the second game, Lincoln defeated host Litchfield 4-3 to break even in the tournament. Eric Broughton went the distance for Lincoln, allowing just four hits. Tyson Durst had two of Lincoln's three hits and one RBI. Tim Guy added a hit and an RBI.

Lincoln is now 10-5 and takes on Oglesby Tuesday evening at home before traveling to Clinton on Wednesday.
