[JUNE 29, 2005]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays (except holidays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is also open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Oasis closed Independence Day

The Oasis will be closed July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Activities will resume at 9 a.m. the next day.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for July 5 will feature BLTs, California salad, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Due to the holiday, the ticket purchase deadline is earlier than usual and will be Thursday at noon.

Rules of the Road

A Rules of the Road review course is scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month, at 1 p.m. The course is free of charge to all interested. No reservation needed.

Hearing screening

The senior center will have free hearing checks July 6 between 10 a.m. and noon. Call 735-6132 for an appointment.

Maple Ridge to sponsor lunch and bingo

On July 7, Maple Ridge Care Centre will sponsor a light lunch at The Oasis, beginning at noon, with bingo games following at 1 p.m. Bring a friend and come join the fun!

Need assistance with insurance forms?

The Oasis and the Senior Health Insurance Program sponsor assistance for seniors with their insurance forms. The volunteers are trained by the Department of Insurance to guide you through problems involving Medicare, Medicare supplement, long-term care insurance, retiree health plans, claims processing and appealing denied claims. This free service is offered every Thursday afternoon. Call 735-6132 for an appointment.

Card winners announced

Eleanor Bartman was the weekday winner for pinochle. Weekend pinochle winners were Mina Bradburn and Linda Hughes.
