[MARCH 16, 2005]  NORMAL -- Lincoln won 47-46 over Washington in the Class AA supersectional Tuesday at Illinois State's Redbird Arena.

Two free throws by Washington's Matt Nicholson put the Panthers ahead by one at the 1:31 of the fourth, but Matt Schick of the Railsplitters hit a jumper at 1:12 for the final score of the game. At the buzzer a 3 by Sean Johnson of Washington, who had been in the game just 14 seconds, fell short.

Schick led the Railsplitters with 14 points (5-of-10; 4-of-8 from 3-point range). Also in double figures was David Pickering with 10. Chris Gossett was the board leader with four.

Matt Roth led Washington with 25 points (9-of-14; 7-of-11 from 3-point range). Nicholson led the Panthers with five boards. Washington, which finishes 21-9, committed just four fouls in the game but lost the turnover battle 11-6.

The Railers, now 31-4, play Rockford Jefferson on Friday in the quarterfinals of IHSA State Final Class AA Basketball Tournament at Carver Arena, Peoria. Game time is 8:15 p.m.
