While no Lincoln school won a
girls' team title, the eighth-grade girls from West Lincoln-Broadwell
did earn a third-place finish, and the eighth-grade girls from
Chester-East Lincoln came in fourth. Chester-East also qualified the
highest number of girls for the state finals competition
State qualifiers
Hilary Hobler, WL-B
The only first-place finisher from
Lincoln was Hilary Hobler from WL-B. Hobler was able to capture the
sectional championship in both the 200-meter dash and the long jump.
She won the 200 meter in a time of 27.8 seconds and won the long
jump with a leap of 15 feet, 4 inches. Hobler also qualified for
state in the 100 meter with a preliminary heat time of 13.2 seconds.
She took third place in the 100 meter.
Hannah McShane
Other eighth-grade state qualifiers
who earned their trip to East Peoria next week by taking second
place were Hannah McShane from Carroll Catholic, Nettie Duncan from
Chester-East and Kelsey Bunner from Chester-East. The C-EL 4x400
relay team, consisting of Bunner, Berglin, Benz and Brooks, also
brought home a second-place finish.
Kelsey Bunner
McShane had to fight off adversity
in the hurdles when the competitor next to her fell in McShane's
lane. Hannah stepped over the fallen girl and still managed to
qualify for the finals in the hurdles. In that final McShane placed
second with a time of 18.8 seconds. Nettie Duncan gave a strong
performance in the shot put with a best throw of 30 feet, 2 inches
to secure her advance to state. Bunner ran strong through the
grueling three-heat process of the 100 meters and took second place
with a final time of 13.6. The C-EL 4x400 relay team, coming off a
strong performance at the Logan County meet last week, captured
second with a time of 4:41.2
Several other eighth-grade girls
qualified for state with qualifying times. Emily Berglin from
Chester-East qualified in the 400 meter with a time of 106.6. The
C-EL 4x100 team also earned a ticket to state, finishing the relay
with a qualifying time of 55.3 seconds. The Carroll 4x100 relay team
also qualified with a time of 57.0 seconds.
Audra Krusz
In girls' seventh-grade action Audra
Krusz from Carroll Catholic was the dominant performer of the day.
She successfully qualified in the 200-meter dash with a qualifying
time of 29.4, took third place in the 100 meter and the long jump, and was part of the
second-place 4x200 relay. The second-place Carroll 4x200 relay
team, which consisted of Krusz, Sheley, Cameron and Ruff, finished
in 2:03.2. The other second-place seventh-grade finish was won by
Brown of Chester-East in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:07.9.
