Unofficial announcement, but Lincoln has won

[MAY 9, 2005]  Excitement was subdued as city, county and development partnership officials waited this morning for formal word from the company that has been looking at Lincoln/Logan County to build a warehouse/distribution center. Development partnership director Rob Orr received word that the food service business told its employees this morning of the decision to choose Lincoln over an Indiana site. The announcement is unofficial pending a press release that is being prepared by the company.

A division of Sysco from Houston, Texas, is planning to build a distribution warehouse that will mostly service central Illinois clients. Dean "Robbie" Roberts serves as president of the division.

Orr picked up from a press release on Dec. 15 indicating that with a merger the company was planning to expand. They were looking for sites like Lincoln. Orr contacted city and county planners and everyone worked hard since Dec. 19 in efforts to get them to come to Lincoln, Mayor Beth Davis said.

Watch LDN for further details on the company and the plans.
