Rembert named Sports Network Offensive Player of the Week          Send a link to a friend

[NOV. 8, 2005]  PHILADELPHIA -- Illinois State running back Pierre Rembert continues to score, as he was honored Monday as The Sports Network Offensive Player of the Week after his 272 rushing yards and six touchdowns in the Redbirds' 48-23 win over Missouri State.

Having a couple of days to think about the personal milestones he surpassed, Rembert still continues to praise the effort of his offensive line.

"It hasn't really sunk in. I was just glad we won," Rembert said. "I've never played in a game like that where I was hardly touched all game. That's why the offensive line needs to get all the credit. It's the goal of our offense to have everyone blocked except for the safety, and sometimes (my teammates) even had him blocked too. I had the easy part."

Rembert compiled a school-record 272 yards on 34 carries while rushing for six touchdowns in Illinois State's 48-23 win at Missouri State. His 272 rushing yards ranks as the fourth-best total in Gateway Conference history and is the second-best rushing total in all of Division I football this season.

His six touchdowns tied both the Illinois State and the GFC standards, while also giving him the most points scored, 36, in a Division I-AA game this season.

He averaged an impressive eight yards per carry, while putting together varying touchdown runs of six, two, two, 51, 22 and six yards. He also added two catches for 42 yards, for 314 all-purpose yards, which ranks No. 2 in ISU history and eighth in the conference.

Rembert becomes the second Redbird to earn the national honor this season, joining Brent Hawkins, who claimed the award after his five-sack performance against Northern Iowa.
