[NOV. 16, 2005]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games that will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the senior center. Come join the fun and win food prizes!

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the senior center library. No reservation is necessary. The group is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre and provides support and information for caregivers and extended family.

Need help with insurance forms

The Oasis and the Senior Health Insurance Program sponsor assistance to seniors with their insurance forms. The volunteers are trained by the Department of Insurance to guide you through problems in involving Medicare, Medicare supplements, long-term care insurance, retiree health plans, claims processing and appealing denied claims. The volunteer will be at the senior center from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday by reservation only.

Board meeting is open to public

The Oasis board meeting for November is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Thursday and is open to the public. To schedule any agenda items for a meeting, the board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to the meeting date.

Oasis Christmas bazaar open house

Start your holiday shopping season by visiting The Oasis gift shop. Our "little elves" have been working all year creating those special gifts. Open house is Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We believe you will find great gift ideas at a very reasonable price. Bring a friend. We will serve punch and cookies.

Memories class

The monthly Memories class is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Friday in the senior center library. No reservation is necessary. Participants should bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memoirs for families and friends.

SHARE food is coming Friday

Self Help and Resource Exchange food orders may be picked up between 4 and 5:30 p.m. December orders also may be placed at that time. The Catholic Diocese of Peoria sponsors the program, which is open to everyone, regardless of faith, age or income.

Oasis book club

The Oasis book club will meet Monday at 1:30 p.m.

November birthday party

Birthday time! Monday at 1:30 p.m. it's time to celebrate your November birthday with us. There will be games, prizes, entertainment, and cake and ice cream. Bring a friend and join the fun!

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Tuesday will feature vegetable beef soup, cheese sandwiches, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Ticket deadline is Monday.

Winners announced

Larry Van Bibber and Mable Hoagland were weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Larry Van Bibber and Marjorie Reiners. Five-in-one winners were Dorothy Oltmanns, Joann Eckert and Linda Hughes.
