LCHS Speech Team top at downstate tournament       Send a link to a friend 

[NOV. 21, 2005]  The Lincoln Community High School Speech team won its first tournament of the year topping 10 teams at the Charleston Speech Tournament. Tournament champions included Rachel Kasa and Tony Curcuru in Dramatic Duet and Lindsey Boerma in Humorous Interp.

Other Varsity finalists included:  Rhiannon Hoagland and Jillian Dowell 6th in Dramatic Duet, Kelly Lohrenz 2nd and Rachel Kasa 4th in Dramatic Interp, Cameron Kurtz 2nd and Amy Schumacher 4th in Extemp, Taylor Muck 4th in Humorous Interp, Curcuru and Annie Sheley 4th and Jairris Vermeire and Taylor Muck 5th in Humorous Duet, Hannah Snyder 5th and Cameron Kurtz 6th in Impromptu, Janel Filbeck 3rd and Rebecca Kasa 5th in Oratroy, Amy Schumacher 2nd and Annie Sheley 7th in  Declamation, Stephanie Holford 5th and Jaci Gandenberger 6th in Original Comedy, Ruth Ohmart 3rd in Prose Reading, Brandon Rahn 3rd and Janel Filbeck 4th in Radio, Lindsey Boerma 2nd and Kelly Lohrenz 4th in Special Occasion, and Ruth Ohmart 2nd in Verse..

 Novice winners included:  Kaylyn Englehardt in Declamation, Chelsea Filbeck in Extemp and Reid McIntosh in Impromptu.   Other Novice finalists were Cody Follis 3rd in Verse and 4th in Dramatic Interp, Chelsea Filbeck 3rd in Impromptu, Stephanie Holford 2nd in Humorous Interp, Hailey Cooper 2nd in Original Comedy and 4th in Humorous Interp, Reid McIntosh  4th in Radio Todd Schumacher 4th in Declamation and 2nd in Humorous Duet with Maddy Bond.  Bond 6th in Verse;  Kaylyn Englehardt 5th and Kelly Knecht 6th in Prose.  Knecht 3rd in Oratory.  Katy Reynolds 3rd in Special Occasion and 5th in Radio Speaking.

Co- Head Speech Coach Ed Jodlowski commented "our goal at the beginning of the year was to field a competitive team and we are really improving.  There is a lot of youth, but you could see at the end of Saturday that they were very satisfied with what they had accomplished -- they certainly have a lot to be proud of  right now.  The team has a well deserved rest, and will be back in competition December 3 at the Heyworth and Bloomington tournaments.
