LINCOLN -- Harley George Heath Jr., 75, of Lincoln died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at 12:46 p.m. at his home.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his son, at 1028 S. State St.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Cemetery, rural Lincoln.

Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Michigan on June 30, 1930, to Harley George and Midge Lazelle Heath Sr. He married Irene Mammen. She preceded him in death in 1995.

Mr. Heath is survived by one son, Jerry Heath of Lincoln; one daughter, Judy Mileham of Lincoln; one stepson, Ron Patterson of Bloomington; one brother, Robert Heath of Mount Pulaski; one sister, Florence Roscoe of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, one brother and his parents.

He was a member of the Church of God.

Hazel Hickey

LINCOLN -- Hazel E. Hickey, 83, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at 3:10 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Curt McCallister officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Hickey was employed as a nurse's aide for 28 years at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 13, 1922, at Lincoln to William H. and Pansy McCray Lee. She married Joseph V. Hickey Sr. on April 21, 1940, at Bowling Green, Mo.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph V. Hickey Sr. of Lincoln; two sons, Joseph V. (and Kay) Hickey Jr. of Cornland and Robert James (and Ann) Hickey of Lincoln; five daughters, Sandra (and Robert) Meador of Lincoln, Loretta Ann (and Truett) Minor of Bessemer, Ala., Virginia Chere of Lincoln, Nancy Jo (and Roger) Sutton of Lincoln and Rebecca Osborne of Lincoln; one brother, Walter Lee of Lincoln; three sisters, Loretta Buchholz of Lincoln, Leona Sherrer of Lincoln and Marilyn Lolling of Hartsburg; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

One daughter, three brothers and son-in-law Danny Chere preceded her in death.

Memorials may be made to St. Clara's Manor or Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Helen Applegate

ATLANTA -- Helen Virginia Applegate, 85, of Atlanta died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at 5 p.m. at Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale.

Her funeral was Tuesday morning at Quiram Funeral Home. Visitation was on Monday at the funeral home.

Military rites were conducted with the burial in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mrs. Applegate was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

She was born Jan. 21, 1920, at Atlanta to Blinn and Helen Kendall Ransdell. She married Robert Kelly Applegate on Nov. 8, 1947, at Atlanta. He died July 24, 1973.

She is survived by one son, James Ransdell (and Sharon) Applegate of Atlanta; one daughter, Mary Helen (and Eric) Hill of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Kelly and Kris Applegate and Rob and Heather Hill; and one stepgranddaughter, Michele Lynne, a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps, serving in Iraq.

Mrs. Applegate was a past matron of the Atlanta Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Atlanta Cemetery Board, a life member of the American Legion, a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church.

As a captain in the Army Nurse Corps, she took care of German prisoners of war at Camp Ellis, was on Tinian Island when the atomic bomb took off and served in occupied Japan.

During her youth, she lived in Hollywood, Calif., New York City and Florida. She returned to Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
