Springfield robbers tracked and apprehended in Lincoln       Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 6, 2005]  Illinois State Police stopped three suspected robbers when they exited Interstate 55 and headed into Lincoln late Wednesday afternoon. The suspects -- 21-year-old Phontez Taylor, 41-year-old Cedric L. Mitchell and 32-year-old Demetrius M. Lenard, all of Champaign -- are accused of robbing Payday Loans in Springfield.

Illinois State police issued an alert with a description of two of the suspects after they were seen leaving Payday Loans, 2427 Stevenson Drive in Springfield, at 4:39 p.m. They got into a white Ford Taurus and headed north on Normandy Road.

Illinois State Police located the suspect vehicle traveling north on I-55 at Milepost 119 in Logan County. The vehicle exited I-55 at Milepost 126 and headed toward Lincoln. Illinois State Police stopped this vehicle on Illinois Route 10 at Lincoln and took the three suspects into custody. Lincoln police assisted.

The suspects were transported to the Logan County Sheriff's Department until Springfield police could be notified and pick them up for transport back to Springfield.

Display of a silver gun was reported in the robbery.
