[OCT. 7, 2005]  NORMAL -- For the first time since "Late Night with Bob Bender," Illinois State fans will have the opportunity to play an integral part in the start of a new basketball season. The event is Redbird HoopFest, and it is taking place Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in Redbird Arena.

Redbird HoopFest, which is sponsored by The Pantagraph and Radio Bloomington, will showcase both the Illinois State men's and women's basketball teams. Admission for the event is free, and the concession stands will have $1 hot dogs available. Redbird Arena doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The family-friendly Redbird HoopFest will include a 3-point shootout, a slam dunk contest, team scrimmages and autograph sessions. In addition, one lucky fan will have the opportunity to walk away with $10,000 in the "Money Ball Shot," sponsored by Pub II and Papa John's. A randomly selected contestant will have one shot at half court to claim the winnings.

The university's program board will have 200 free T-shirts available for ISU students, while team posters and schedule cards will also be available.
