K/C/B Historical Society turkey and pie at Lincoln High

It's back       Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 8, 2005]  MIDDLETOWN -- Yes, it's back! Many folks throughout central Illinois were disappointed that the K/C/B Historical Society could not serve its annual turkey supper last year.

Members of the historical society are happy to invite all those past visitors to the turkey dinner this year on Oct. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at a new and different location, the cafeteria at Lincoln Community High School, Primm Road in Lincoln. Use Wyatt Avenue for access.

The menu remains the same: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, roll, green beans, choice of salads, choice of pies, and coffee or iced tea.

Carryouts will be available. For more efficient serving from the state-of-the-art kitchen equipment at LCHS, there will be separate lines for carryouts and diners-in.

The turkey dinner is a benefit for the Knapp Library and Museum, 101 S. Clinton in Middletown. The museum opened in 2002 with Sunday celebrations and "Yesterday's Tomorrows" Smithsonian exhibits viewed by about 1,000 people. The library opened in 2003.

The library-museum is maintained by the Knapp/Chesnut/Becker Historical Society, incorporated with the Illinois secretary of state on July 29, 1991, as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Donations are tax-deductible.

The articles of incorporation included four goals for the society:

  • Restore the circa 1840 "architectural gem on the prairie" -- the oldest commercial building in Logan County.
  • Establish a public library and museum, free of charge.
  • Preserve the genealogical and historical data of the community.
  • Promote tourism.

Details on historical displays by Paul Gleason, assistant curator of the Logan College Museum in Lincoln, will be available soon.
