Salvation Army seeks cash donations for hurricane relief          Send a link to a friend

[SEPT. 1, 2005]  Capt. Bonnie Sanders of The Salvation Army Keest Center in Logan County announced today that The Salvation Army is seeking cash donations to assist with disaster relief in the hurricane-devastated areas of the country.

The Salvation Army is operating homeless shelters and is prepared to serve up to 500,000 hot meals per day to first responders and victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Unfortunately, because of the lack of electricity and storage areas, there is no way to handle food drive donations or clothing items at the present time. The best way to assist The Salvation Army as it helps those devastated by the hurricane is by cash donations. A $100 donation will feed a family of four for two days, provide for two cases of drinking water and provide a household cleanup kit.

People wishing to donate may do so by mailing checks directly to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 52, Lincoln, IL 62656. Place "disaster relief" in the memo. Donations may be made online at www.salvationarmyusa.org. Or, call 1 (800) SAL-ARMY to make donations or inquire about volunteer opportunities.

To inquire about loved ones, go to www.satern.org.

The Salvation Army is deeply thankful for all the generosity of contributors who desire to help their neighbors.
