[SEPT. 13, 2005]  St. Clara's Manor of Lincoln was notified on Aug. 26 that it has been selected by the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services to initiate the development and building of a supportive living facility in Logan County.

The application submitted by St. Clara's Manor was approved by the department after a competitive review process that involved several organizations vying to build such a facility in Logan County. The Supportive Living Program is overseen by the state and is an alternative to nursing home care for older people and people with limited income and is partially sponsored by Medicaid.

By combining apartment-style housing with personal care and other services, residents can live independently and take part in decision-making. Personal choice, dignity, privacy and individuality are emphasized. Services in the Supportive Living Program and the St. Clara's facility will include personal care, homemaking, laundry, medication supervision, social activities, recreation and 24-hour staff to meet residents' scheduled and unscheduled needs. The resident is responsible for paying the cost of room and board at the facility.

St. Clara's has been providing services to the senior community for over 30 years, and the new facility will expand the continuum of care available for seniors in Logan County. The new facility will have 54 apartment units with a mixture of single and double occupancies and will be located at the corner of Sixth and Maple streets in Lincoln. It is anticipated that the new facility will be completed and operational for the public in the late fall of 2006. For further information, please contact St. Clara's Manor at (217) 735-1507.
