Yesterday, the Lady Railers’ pre-game schedule included a life
lesson. That life lesson included a team trip to a Lincoln funeral
home to give honor to the wonderful and productive life of Evelyn
Alberta Kutz and to give encouragement to their junior varsity
coach, Dawn Kutz-Crawford, who had lost her mom, in this life. For
some of the Lady Railers it was their first trip to a funeral home.
For all of them it was a lesson in life. And as I watched each team
member hug their coach, I could tell that Coach Kutz was still
coaching, even in her grief, as she was comforting her players as
much as they were encouraging her. Our heartfelt condolences Coach
on the loss of your beautiful mother. May God comfort you through
this difficult time.
The Railers returned to LCHS to play their first conference match of
the year against the Taylorville Tornadoes. The Railers were clearly
the superior team and there was never a doubt about the outcome,
only the final score. Ultimately the Lady Railers prevailed 25-12
and 25-18. Taylorville had no personnel to stop the net play of Erin
Frick,
Jamie McFadden, Natalie Boward, Ashley Meyrick and Kate
Schonauer. Taylorville also had no answer for the excellent serving
of Ashley Bonaparte, including several that dropped in for aces.
Katie Conklen was everywhere in the gym tracking down defensive
plays. All in all, the Railers played to their level of competition
and ended the evening 1-0 in Central State Eight Conference play and
are now 13-4 overall.
But, as it clearly appeared to everyone associated with Lincoln Lady
Railer volleyball, all of that was only of secondary importance last
night.
Perspective. Lesson learned.

Junior varsity results
The Lady Railer junior varsity improved its overall record to 9-3
and its CS8 Conference record to 1-0 as it defeated Taylorville
25-17, 25-16. The junior Lady Railers had just returned from a very
successful, but very emotional weekend tournament at Jacksonville
High School. At Jacksonville, the Railers went undefeated in pool
play beating the likes of Wheaton St. Frances, Normal Community High
and Belleville East. The Railers entered the Gold Division for the
playoffs and in the semi-finals defeated Jacksonville on its home
floor. In the battle for first place against Normal Community, LCHS
won the first game and then fell in games two and three to end up in
2nd place in the Gold Division. Congratulations ladies,
thanks for letting me take part.
Freshmen remain undefeated
The Lady Railer freshmen team continues to play well and easily
defeated the Tornadoes by a match score of 25-12 and 25-5. The
freshmen are 8-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The freshmen
will head to Morton this weekend for some tough tournament action
that may include matches against conference foe SHG and rivalries
from the north including Normal Community, Normal West and Morton,
among other good teams.
GO RAILERS!!
