NORMAL --
WJBC has been the flagship of Illinois State athletics since 1938,
and that will remain the case until 2012, as the two parties signed
a six-year contract extension on Monday.

ISU Director of Athletics Sheahon Zenger appreciates the community
partnership with Radio Bloomington. "One of the things that I have
gained admiration for in my first year on the job is the true
partnership that has formed between Radio Bloomington and our
athletics department," said Zenger. "I value Radio Bloomington's
innovation and the sincere determination to advance Illinois State
University and Redbird Athletics in the Bloomington-Normal
community."
Red Pitcher, vice president and general manager of Radio
Bloomington, agrees with Zenger's sentiment.
"WJBC is honored to continue our broadcast and promotional
agreement with Illinois State," said Pitcher. "On an athletic and
business level our relationships are first class. With the
leadership of President Al Bowman and Athletics Director Sheahon
Zenger, good things will continue to happen. Go, you Redbirds!"

WJBC, which won
the 2005 National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Award as the
Nation's Best Small Market Radio Station, will continue to serve as
the flagship station of the Redbird Radio Network for the ISU
football and men's basketball games. In addition, WJBC, along with
WJBC2.com, will continue its support
of women's athletics with its coverage of both Redbird volleyball
and women's basketball. The station also carries coaches shows for
all four sports.
Radio Bloomington will also maintain its commitment with
WJBC2.com broadcasts of ISU baseball and softball, while adding some
Redbird soccer matches in the fall.
