[AUG. 26, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- Logan County Fair President Dean Bruns was named County Fair Person of the Year at the 2006 Illinois State Fair. Bruns was nominated by the Logan County Fair board for his many years of service to the county fair, the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs and the District Fair Association.

Bruns has served in many positions for the Logan County Fair, including board president, board member and superintendent of the Milking Shorthorn Show.

He and his wife, Alda, live in the Hartsburg area, where he has farmed most of his life.

The award came as quite a surprise to Bruns, as family and friends made sure he attended the ceremony "to pick up one of those 40-year service pins." When announced, he couldn't stand or answer because he was so surprised.

Pictured presenting the award to Bruns are Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Chuck Hartke and Tex Moats, chief of the Bureau of County Fairs.
