Bloomington 'Pops in the Park' with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on Sunday       Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 29, 2006]  BLOOMINGTON -- The public is invited to attend the fourth annual free "Pops in the Park" concert with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on Sunday at 7 p.m. in Bloomington's Miller Park bandstand. The park is located at the corner of Morris Avenue and Wood Street.

Under the direction of Karen Lynne Deal, music director and conductor, the orchestra will present a variety of patriotic favorites, highlights from the upcoming season and a special children's feature with selections from "Looney Tunes," "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Harry Potter."

Come early for ice cream and beverages available from the Pantagraph and for the "Sweet Treats" bake sale hosted by the Symphony Guild, beginning at 6 p.m.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Parking is available on-site. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on park grounds, and the event will be canceled in case of inclement weather. Handicap parking will be available in designated areas near the bandstand.

The Pantagraph is returning this year as presenting sponsor of the concert.

The Illinois Symphony Orchestra performs in Springfield and Bloomington, drawing musicians from across Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin. For more information call 217-522-2838. The orchestra is supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
