Springfield 'Pops in the Park' with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on Saturday          Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 29, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- The public is invited to attend the fourth annual "Pops in the Park" concert with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the band shell at Douglas Park, 400 N. MacArthur Blvd. Admission to the concert is free, and the Symphony Guild will host a "Sweet Treats" bake sale beginning at 6 p.m.

Under the direction of Karen Lynne Deal, music director and conductor, the orchestra will present a variety of patriotic favorites, highlights from the upcoming season and a special children's feature with selections from "Looney Tunes," "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Harry Potter."

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Parking is available on-site. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on park grounds, and the event will be canceled in case of inclement weather. Handicap parking will be available on the South side of Douglas Park.

Returning this year as media sponsor of the event is The State Journal-Register.

The Illinois Symphony Orchestra performs in Springfield and Bloomington, drawing musicians from across Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin. For more information call 217-522-2838. The orchestra is supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
