Park district notes       Send a link to a friend

[FEB. 2, 2006]  Digital photography classes are on the schedule again here at Lincoln Park District. We are pleased to welcome Stephen Klemm, owner of Picture This Studio, as our instructor. Sessions are designed for the beginner to the intermediate, or anyone interested in using your digital camera to the fullest of its ability. The course will open with how to take better photographs from a mediocre one. Following weeks will address the best setting for your camera and computer printer and software. Klemm will also cover making calendars, cards and fun, whimsical projects. The last week, the course will culminate with the high-tech of special effects, e-mail and slide shows. This four-week class will meet on Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 9. The cost is $50 for in-district residents and $62.50 for people living outside the district.

Dog obedience class is being offered on Sunday afternoons starting Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m. This basic instruction course will cover "heel," "sit," "lay" and walking on a leash. Although offered as group instruction, some time will be devoted to individual dog behaviors. Mike Bieser, the owner of Canine Training Institute, trains dogs professionally for many Midwest police departments. Owners or handlers must be a minimum of 8 years of age. Owners must provide a 6-foot non-retractable leash and a chain or choke collar. Proof of inoculation is required at the time of registration. The cost for the dog obedience class is $50 in district and $62.50 out of district.

February is American Heart Month. Theresa Lee, R.N., senior health care advocate, will be here on Feb. 13, 15 and 27. She will check blood pressure and share information relating to cardio and senior health issues. Mrs. Lee volunteers her time and expertise with the park district and there are no charges involved.
