[FEB. 15, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension service to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m., at The Oasis. Come join the fun and win food prizes.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the senior center's library. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Board meeting is open to public

The Oasis board meets Thursday at 5 p.m., and the meeting is open to the public. To schedule any agenda times, the board must receive notification in writing before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date.

Memories class

The monthly Memories class is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Friday in the library at the senior center. No reservation is necessary. Participants should bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memories for families and friends.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Feb. 21 will feature potato soup, carrot and celery sticks, bread and butter, dessert, and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Ticket deadline is noon Friday.

Think tank

On Feb. 22 at 9:15 a.m., Darlene Freeman, volunteer for Medicare Part D and the Illinois Cares Rx program, will discuss the changes in the former programs known as SeniorCare and Circuit Breaker. No reservation is necessary.

SHARE food is coming Feb. 24

Self Help and Resource Exchange food orders may be picked up between 4 and 5:30 p.m. Feb. 24. March orders also may be placed then. The Catholic Diocese of Peoria sponsors the program, which is open to everyone, regardless of faith, age or income.

Winners for the week announced

Eleanor Barton and Alice Petro were weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Marjorie Reiners and Helen Cart. Winners for five-in-one were Bernie DePuy and Ella Lee Graney. Congratulations to the winners this week.
