[FEB. 15, 2006]  DATELINE -- As anticipated, with the 2005 figures released by the Agricultural Statistics Service, Logan County fell from the lofty corn yield plateau established the past two years. The Logan County corn yield was established at 144 bushels per acre. This figure was 30 percent shy of the 188 bushels per acre achieved in 2004 and the record corn yield established in 2003 with 189 bushels per acre. The Logan County 10-year average for corn yields is 160 bushels per acre (1996-2005).

The top-yielding corn counties in the state were Christian County at 181 bushels per acre, Macon at 175, Moultrie with 172, Piatt at 171 and Sangamon with 169.

Soybean yields dropped slightly from 2004 levels, with a 2005 Logan County average of 53 bushels per acre. The 2004 average yield was 56 bushels per acre. The 53-bushel average is the second-highest on record, with the 2004 crop being the highest yielding. The Logan County 10-year soybean yield average is 48.65 bushels per acre.

The top-yielding county in the state for soybeans was once again Carroll County, at 57 bushels per acre. Carroll County was followed by Piatt and DeWitt counties with 56-bushel averages. Next were McLean, Macon, Champaign and Moultrie counties with 54-bushel yields.
