[JAN. 11, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Oasis potluck and bingo

Come join us at 11:30 a.m. Thursday for the monthly potluck, featuring beef and noodles, salads, special dishes, and desserts. Seniors are invited to bring a dish to pass or a $3 donation. The Christian Village will sponsor the weekly bingo games that will begin at 1 p.m. The monthly lunch drawing will be for Guzzardo's. Come enjoy an afternoon of fun and surprises. Bring a friend!

Blood pressure checks

The Oasis offers free blood pressure checks every Friday between 10 and 11:30 a.m. No appointment necessary.

Need help with insurance forms?

The Oasis and the Senior Health Insurance Program sponsor assistance for seniors with their insurance forms. The volunteers are trained by the Department of Insurance to guide you through problems in involving Medicare, Medicare supplements, long-term care insurance, retiree health plans, claims processing and appealing denied claims.

Oasis closed Jan. 16

The Oasis will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King's Birthday. Activities will resume on Tuesday.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Jan. 17 will feature pork steak, stuffing, vegetable blend, bread and butter, dessert, and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. The ticket deadline, Friday, is early due to the holiday.

Winners for the week announced

Larry VanBibber, Mable Hoagland and Alice Petro won weekday pinochle. The weekend pinochle winners were Larry VanBibber, Alice Petro and Esther Will.
