Dinner and a movie       Send a link to a friend

[JAN. 13, 2006]  ELKHART -- An evening of friendship, food, faith and fun is planned for tonight (Friday) at Elkhart Christian Church. The featured movie is "Cast Away," starring Tom Hanks as a FedEx engineer stranded alone on a tropical island after a plane crash.

The meal preparation begins at 6:30 p.m., with everyone bringing one of the suggested food items to share. It's all thrown into the pot and cooks while the first half of the movie rolls. We'll take a break for dinner in the dining hall, decorated in a beach theme, and prepare dessert. Then we'll return to the second half of the film. Following the film there will be dessert with discussion.

The community is invited; however, please call the church, 947-2726 or 947-2352, to know what food items to bring to help with dinner. The menu is shrimp boil, french bread, soda and tea, coconut cream punch, and macadamia cookies.

Craner presents 'Christ in Kenya' -- Sunday

[JAN. 12, 2006]  ELKHART -- Sunday evening at Elkhart Christian Church, Doris Craner will present her journey to Kenya. Craner, a resident of Riverton and radiology technician at Springfield Clinic, took personal leave this past November to visit the Pokot people of Tapadany, West Kenya. The Elkhart Christian Church commissioned and sent her to observe firsthand the Children of Pokot Education mission, which the church supports. While there she helped with outreach to over 500 children being cared for by the mission.

C.O.P.E. operates a Christian school for nursery age through eighth grade, a nutritional feeding program, a health clinic, an economic cottage industry, an agricultural development program, evangelistic outreach and church planting.

Mrs. Craner will present her journey in a multimedia format while sharing moving stories and lessons God impressed upon her heart. The presentation will begin at 7 p.m., and there will be a time for interaction and questions at the conclusion of her program. The public is urged to come.

Elkhart Christian Church is located at 113 S. Gillett St. in Elkhart. For further information or directions, call (217) 947-2726.
