[JAN. 18, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Extension service to sponsor bingo

The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games Thursday at the senior center, beginning at 1 p.m. Come join the fun and win food prizes.

Alzheimer support group to meet

The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the senior center's library. No reservation is necessary. The group provides support and information for caregivers and extended family and is facilitated by a coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Annual board meeting

The annual board meeting of the Senior Citizens of Logan County is open to the public and will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at The Oasis. Board members' confirmation, a summary of 2005 highlights and plans for 2006 activities are on the agenda. To schedule agenda items, the board must receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the month prior to a meeting date

Memories class

The monthly Memories class is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Friday in the senior center's library. No reservation is necessary. Participants should bring their own pen and paper to learn skills needed to preserve memories for families and friends.

SHARE food is coming Friday

The Self Help and Resource Exchange food orders may be picked up between 4 and 5:30 p.m. Friday. February orders also may be placed then. The Catholic Diocese of Peoria sponsors the program, which is open to everyone, regardless of faith, age or income.

January birthday party

Birthday time! Monday at 1:30 p.m. it's time to celebrate your January birthday with us. There will be games, prizes, entertainment, and cake and ice cream. Come join the fun and bring a friend!

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Jan. 24 will feature chili veggie soup, corn muffins with butter, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Ticket deadline is noon Monday.

VA rep will visit Tuesday

A Veterans Administration representative will be at the senior center on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Assistance is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Think tank

Dom Dalpoas, executive director of the senior center, will be the speaker for the Jan. 25 think tank session, beginning at 9:15 a.m. He will present "Oasis 2006."

Winners for the week announced

Mabel Hoagland and Helen Cart were weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Eleanor Barton and Tom Garrison. The five-in-one winners were Dorothy Oltmann and Henry Warnisher. Congratulations to the winners!
