Lincoln IETC and Robert's Sysco Food Services introduce more than 100 openings at job fairs       Send a link to a friend

[JAN. 26, 2006]  Robert's Sysco is having two more job fairs this week: tonight (Thursday) from 4 to 8 and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Lincoln Park District.

"In the 24 years I have been in the employment and training field, I have never seen such a comprehensive and organized job fair," Lincoln IETC director Jan Gleason said.

What can a job seeker expect at the job fair? Applicants are handed a packet when entering and will be asked to register. The packet contains a job application, full job description, salary information and an informational brochure about Robert's.

They then are moved into the lobby, where they can watch a 10- to 15-minute video about the company.

Each job fair is staffed by company managers, supervisors and workers who perform the job tasks. Candidates can ask specific questions about the jobs and about the company. Job seekers can gain a wealth of information from this component of the job fair.

Candidates then can go to the application room, where they can complete the application. Once the application is completed, job seekers can have a "pre-interview" with a company representative.

Thursday there will be approximately 17 company staff available. Thursday is just for those candidates interested in the night selector warehouse positions.

On Saturday, the job fair is open to all positions -- over 100 available. The company is planning on having between 35 and 40 staff present on that date.

In addition, Robbie Robert, chief executive officer and company president, will be available at the job fair to talk to and answer questions from job seekers. He also attended the job fair on Monday for drivers.

"I would encourage individuals to stop in our office to pick up an application and review a list of all the positions available," Gleason said. Candidates who have a resume are encouraged to attach it to the application.

"We would like to give CITV5 (Tim, Tom and Celeste) and the Lincoln Park District (Marcia, Roy and Christina) a big thank-you for assisting our office in coordinating and sponsoring this event," Gleason said. She said that her office began preparations about three months ago, and when she asked for sponsorship assistance, CITV and the park district both responded the same way: with open arms and "Whatever you need, Jan." They have been a tremendous help and resource, she said.

In addition, Eileen Higgs Parn, director of employee and community relations for Robert's Sysco, and Robert Coffey, human resources generalist, have been absolutely fantastic to work with, Gleason said. After working with them for the past few months, it is quite apparent that Robert's Sysco is dedicated and committed to their employees, customers and community.
