Weather spotters on alert as storm
moves in

The
National Weather Service in Lincoln issued a severe thunderstorm
warning in effect until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for southern Fulton
County, eastern Cass County, Menard County, northeastern Schuyler
County, northwestern DeWitt County, Logan County, Mason County,
southeastern Tazewell County, McLean County and southeastern
Woodford County. |
At 4:23 p.m., National Weather Service Doppler
radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing
destructive winds in excess of 70 mph. These storms were located
along a line extending from five miles northeast of El Paso to Green
Valley to three miles northeast of Vermont, or along a line
extending from 17 miles east of Eureka to 11 miles south of Pekin to
13 miles west of Lewistown, and were moving southeast at 40 mph.
Locations affected include Gridley, Astoria,
Hopedale, Havana, Delavan, Carlock, San Jose and Minier. Other
locations in the warning are Armington, Atlanta, Bath, Beason,
Bloomington, Chandlerville, Danvers, Downs, Easton, Elkhart, Emden,
Greenview, Hartsburg, Heyworth, Hudson, Kilbourne, LeRoy, Lincoln,
Mason City, McLean, Middletown, Normal, Petersburg, Stanford,
Towanda, Wapella, Waynesville, Browning, Cooksville, Lexington and
Virginia.

If you are caught outdoors, move to a strong building and stay away
from windows. Do not take shelter under trees or picnic shelters.
Frequent lightning is common in severe thunderstorms.
This storm has a history of producing wind damage. This is an
extremely dangerous situation. Seek shelter now inside a sturdy
structure and stay away from windows!

or the nearest law enforcement agency for relay to the National
Weather Service.
